I have used macOS for many years. Despite using Linux OS for a while, I am a Mac guy at heart. There is a plethora of Apps available to the Mac and the hardware from Apple is top-notch. The macOS is great except for one thing, System Data.

You can find System Data in the General System Preferences area right here.

The System Data on my M4 iMac running macOS Golden Gate is huge. It runs around 40GB continually. My iMac has a 256GB SSD. I do not have much space to spare. If you run a 256GB SSD machine, System Data can be the bane of your Mac experience.

As far as I know, System Data is a bunch of system caches and other junk needed to run the Mac. The Golden Gate installation is about 30GB. If System Data is 40GB, then it takes 70GB run your Mac! That is insane.

You can clear caches and do other cleanup work, but it does not affect System Data much at all.

I hope Apple will code macOS Golden Gate in the future to trim down System Data. At this point, if you asked me which Mac to buy, I would say one with the 512 GB SSD drive. You would need the extra space to accommodate System Data!
